Vietnam Cafe began the way the best family kitchens always do: with a pot of broth simmering long before sunrise. Tucked into a quaint corner building in downtown Kansas City near the historic River Market, we opened our doors in 2001 with a simple promise — to cook the food we grew up on, exactly the way it was meant to taste.
Word traveled fast. Long before bone broth and chef-made noodles were fashionable, neighbors and downtown workers were lining up out the door for our pho — rice noodles, tender beef and chicken, fresh herbs, and a peppery, slow-simmered broth built from bones and a quiet blend of cinnamon, star anise, clove, and coriander. Add a squeeze of lime, a handful of bean sprouts and basil, and a swirl of sriracha, and you have a bowl people drive across the city for.
More than two decades later, the recipes haven't changed and neither has the welcome. Whether you're a regular who knows our servers by name or a first-timer chasing your first bowl of pho, you're family here. And in 2026, we're proud to open a second home in Overland Park — same recipes, same heart, a brand-new table.
